You often say, “l know you. I understand you.”
But do you really know me or know only what I tell you?
That night you asked me “How was your day?”
Although demented with worry, I said it was okay.
You believed it and went on to tell your stories
Did you really understand me and my worries?

Last Sunday you were telling me how much you love football
“Even I love it”, I reciprocated over the call.
Didn’t tell you, I watch it occasionally, not always
But you thought the craze goes both ways.
You believed it and went on to tell about your day
Do you really understand me or only what I say?

You often tell me you haven’t seen someone as perfect as me
I am a kaleidoscope – changing moods every moment you see.
I am a book, you read the prologue and claim to know the tale
As you read in depth, you will know, I have a lot more to tell.

My thoughts are a strange ocean for you, I see
You need to dive into it, to understand me.
My thoughts are a ballroom for unseen dances
You can’t enjoy it by giving mere glances.
So next time you tell me, I understand you
I hope you understand me and not what I tell you.
